The house is also known as the Patout-Broussard home built in the late 1800’s by Felix Patout-Broussard who owned a lumber mill. The home was built as a showcase for the architectural craftsmanship of the era. The house is constructed entirely of Cypress with double walls to provide
strength, stability, and insulating qualities. There is magnificently crafted intricate detail in the wood throughout the house. The home has eleven-foot ceilings downstairs and twelve-foot ceilings upstairs with extensive crown molding elaborate doors, window frames and a striking staircase. You will also discover seven distinctive fireplaces with black slate and faux marble etching with cast iron inserts. La Maison Du Teche invites you to come and stay in our beautifully decorated rooms with period antiques, private bath cable tv's internet ,and phone accessiability.
